The term "pharmakeia" is derived from the Greek word φαρμακεία (pharmakeia), which is mentioned in the Bible. It is often translated as "sorcery," "witchcraft," or "magic arts" in English translations. In biblical context, pharmakeia refers to the use of drugs or potions for occult or magical purposes, often associated with idolatry and spiritual deception.

The Bible does caution against engaging in practices related to pharmakeia, as it is considered a form of spiritual rebellion and disobedience to God. In several instances, the use of drugs or potions for sorcery or divination is condemned in the Bible. For instance, in Galatians 5:19-21, pharmakeia is listed among "works of the flesh" that are contrary to the Spirit of God.

In fact, the Bible also acknowledges the use of natural remedies and medicinal plants for healing purposes. For example, in Ezekiel 47:12, it mentions that "the leaves of the tree [will be] for the healing of the nations." The Bible encourages wise and responsible use of natural resources for the well-being of individuals.
